Site where Neem trees are to be planted in Syd Farber's memory

In honor of Syd, SHARE will plant Neem trees near the SHARE dispensary being constructed in Anyea.

His skills as a well known motivational speaker, English grammar fanatic and longtime educator served SHARE very well. He was the force behind getting highly talented and promising young high school students to participate in the SHARE fund raiser at Halloween- affectionately known as the SCARE Fair.

He was one of the most passionate voices of SHARE in the education field.

Along the way of doing some serious work for our orphans’ well being Syd also provided humorous moments with a funny quip or two. The Board conversed about our lives outside of SHARE and it was clear that Syd was a very proud and a loving family man. He was especially proud of his children, Debra and Michelle and was a loving husband to Lenore Farber. We agree with Lenore when she says “You felt his energy, his passion for living. Everything he did, he did 200 percent.”

Syd was born June 17, 1946, in Stockport, England, to Mark and Molly Cohen Farber. The family moved to Brooklyn in 1957. A graduate of Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, he received his Bachelor of Arts in English from City College of New York and a master’s degrees in administration from Pace University and another Masters in Counseling from Brooklyn College. Syd and Lenore married on July 4, 1976. The two moved to Rockland in 1979.

Syd taught English for 16 years at Spring Valley High School until his retirement as a Principal in 2001. In 2002, he started Sydspeaks, Inc., offering seminars, career counseling and motivational speaking to area businesses and organizations.

“In honor of Syd, SHARE will plant Neem trees near the SHARE dispensary being constructed in Anyea, on the shores of Lake Victoria in Kenya.” said Dr. MacGuffie, President and Founder of SHARE. “ I selected Neem trees because they are majestic, constantly growing, provide graceful shade and their leaves are known to have certain therapeutic effects”, she added.

We were privileged to have worked with Syd and will miss him dearly.
