Today’s issue of The Journal News includes an article entitled “Africa’s ‘Lifeline’ SHARE changes hands.” The article, written by Jane Lerner, profiles Dr. MacGuffie – Founder and President Emeritus, and the history of SHARE, which she co-founded over 20 years ago. Dr. MacGuffie recently stepped down from her role as President of SHARE, but has reassured SHARE’s team that she “will remain involved.”

SHARE names Usha Wright President and Chairman of the Board
Outgoing Founder cites Wright’s experience and program success
WASHINGTONVILLE, NY – The Society for Resources and Hospital Exchange (SHARE) is pleased to announce that Usha Wright, Esq. has been named President and Chairman of the Board. This role change is effective as of January 2010, and Ms. Wright will succeed Dr. Martha M. MacGuffie who will assume the role of Founder and President Emeritus.
“Under Usha’s leadership, orphan sponsorships have increased dramatically and the administration of the Program has improved considerably,” said Dr. MacGuffie. “She has fostered strong alliances on the ground, creating better and faster communication processes with the social workers, and increasing SHARE’s impact in Kenya. With her senior level corporate experiences, her background in law, public health, and environmental protection, her passion and her commitment to SHARE, Usha is ideally suited to build on SHARE’s impressive record.”
Dr. MacGuffie also noted that Usha has been working with SHARE for more than eight years and has taken the orphan sponsorship program to the new heights.
Usha Wright currently serves as an Executive Vice President at the environmental engineering firm of O’Brien & Gere. Previously she was at ITT Corporation, where she held various positions including Senior Vice President and Director of Global Workforce Strategy, Vice President, Environment Safety and Health, and Associate General Counsel.
Prior to joining ITT in 1993, Usha was the Executive Director of Health, Safety and Environment at Ciba Geigy. Usha is a graduate of Rutgers University School of Law, where she was an editor of Rutgers Law Review and has a Masters Degree from the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering at the School of Public Health of the University of North Carolina. She also serves on the Board of the Environmental Law Institute.

David Violante of SHARE has left for Haiti to provide assistance to the earthquake victims there. He is part of an advanced team with the group, NYCMedics.
The team will set up logistical support, and liaise with other organizations. They will also connect into the WHO network in preparation for teams of medical providers that will be arriving to Haiti later to deliver much needed medical care.
The NYCMedics website at http://www.nycmedics.org will feature updates on the team’s work in Haiti. The website also allows people to make online donations to the cause.

Kenya: EMS students and teachers proundly display new textbooks.
Training this year will be a little different for Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) in Kenya. Bethuel Aliwa of the Kenya Council of EMTs (KCEMT) has taken delivery of 50 EMS books for their training program that will teach students how to deliver basic and advanced emergency medical care for the sick and injured in Kenya.

Dr. Martha Bobby MacGuffie, M.D., President & Founder of SHARE, was one of ten people to be honored at the the Second Annual “Honor Our Heroes” ceremony held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Palisades Center, West Nyack, New York.
Dr. MacGuffie was recognized for her efforts with SHARE, especially for helping children orphaned due to AIDS.

The Journal News recently reported on SHARE’s preparations to ship a large container of medical equipment to Kenya. The article titled SHARE packs medical supplies for Kenya appeared in the November 3, 2008 issue.
This is the fourth large shipment of medical supplies that SHARE has sent to Kenya to date. The last three shipments contained over $1.6 million (USD) worth of medical equipment and supplies to benefit Kenyan communities.
