SHARE prepares another shipment of medical equipment to Kenya

The Journal News recently reported on SHARE’s preparations to ship a large container of medical equipment to Kenya. The article titled SHARE packs medical supplies for Kenya appeared in the November 3, 2008 issue.

This is the fourth large shipment of medical supplies that SHARE has sent to Kenya to date. The last three shipments contained over $1.6 million (USD) worth of medical equipment and supplies to benefit Kenyan communities.

SHARE Founder to be Honored at "Honor Our Heroes" Event

Dr. Martha Bobby MacGuffie, M.D., President & Founder of SHARE, is being named as one of the Heroes in the Second Annual “Honor Our Heroes” event to be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 1:00pm at the Palisades Center, West Nyack, New York.

The event, featuring introductions and presentations for each Hero, will take place in the JC Penney Court on the first level of the Palisades Center. The event will be MC’d by Bob Baird of the Journal News.

District Commissioner praises SHARE as one of the best and most effective NGOs

Mr. Odino Apuko is the Commissioner of Suba District, Nyanza Province, Kenya. Speaking at a conference of NGOs (Non-governmental Organizations), including some very prominent international ones, Mr. Apuko commented:

”...of all the NGOs I know, SHARE is one of the best and most effective. They have limited resources—only two people—but I see them going from school to school, ensuring that their charge is well carried out!”

The two people he refers to in this comment are SHARE Kenya’s social workers Cyprina and Lucy who administer the SHARE Orphan Sponsorship (SOS) program.

Sad News: SHARE Board Member Lou Bassik has passed away

We are deeply saddened to report that SHARE Board Member Lou Bassik has passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.

Lou served as our beloved treasurer at SHARE and was an invaluable member of our Board of Directors. He was committed to our goal of helping Kenyan orphans who have less than nothing. His friendly attitude, enthusiastic demeanour, and his infectious laughter will be sorely missed.

In honor of his dedication to our cause, SHARE will plant a Neem tree on the shore of Lake Victoria in Kenya where it will provide shade for our orphans as they play.

Weakening Global Economy Jeopardizes SHARE Orphan Sponsorship Program

Over the last 2 years, we have significantly raised the quality of communication and administration of the SHARE Orphan Sponsorship [SOS] program thanks to an informative web site, a high tech system to administer SOS, our dedicated all-volunteer team, and most importantly, your continued generosity and support. But the beginning of 2008 finds SOS facing a serious crisis brought on by continued devaluation of the once mighty US Dollar coupled with the rising costs of schooling and boarding in Kenya.
