Dr. MacGuffie is without a doubt, a woman who deserves our attention. She is a woman that proves my theory that beauty is heart and soul deep. She is a woman who has stamped a lasting impression on our world, and is someone who has made a definite difference in the lives of so many. With this book, she will continue to do so! There are very few people in Rockland County, New York, who have not heard of Dr. Martha MacGuffie. I can tell you that during the course of our friendship, I have seen countless people approach the eighty-six year old retired surgeon and founder of SHARE, in grocery stores and restaurants and parking lots, to share with her how she has touched their lives. How many of us experience that in our lifetime ? Stranger after stranger offering gratitude for who you are, what you have accomplished, and what you have meant in their lives. And that is only here in this community. There are thousands more who do not regularly get the opportunity to offer their thanks, because they are across the globe in Kenya, Africa, doing something they had little hope of doing before Dr. MacGuffie entered their lives…enjoying life!
This book changed shapes several times from its beginning. In the end it allowed for time to pass, for two strangers to become good friends, and for me, wonderful life lessons to be learned. I am so grateful for that. I am also grateful for the trust that my friend put in me to not just tell her story as a summary of events that occurred in her life, but more as a useful roadmap to stay with the reader until the time might come when they find one of her stories useful for their own journey.
