Our Mission

SHARE’s mission is to save lives, foster a sustainable future, and vastly improve the quality of life of children and adults in African communities. SHARE’s projects are focused on Kenya’s Homa Bay County in the West, right on Lake Victoria; a region in critical need of help due to its extremely high incidence of AIDS, abject poverty, geographical remoteness, and lack of health care and social support infrastructure.

SHARE was founded in 1987 by Dr. Martha M. MacGuffie, a plastic renowned and reconstructive surgeon at Nyack Hospital in New York. It is based in Rockland County, New York with an affiliate in Mbita, Kenya, Africa. SHARE was registered in 1990 under the name “Society for Hospital and Resources Exchange Inc.” as a non-profit organization under section 501( c )( 3 ) of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Code in the U.S.
