Madeleine C. Blanc

1939 – 2019

New City – Madeleine C. Blanc (née La Gamma), age 80, died on April 14, 2019 after a long ordeal following brain surgery in 2014. A long-time resident of New City, NY, she was born in the Bronx on January 12, 1939 to Dolores and Frank La Gamma. She grew up in Parkchester and was the first member of her extended family to attend college. She graduated from CUNY’s Hunter College in 1960 and immediately began work on a master’s degree in medieval history. Madeleine married William J. Blanc in 1963, and they had two daughters, Jennifer and Victoria. Madeleine began her career in public relations, moved to commodities trading and then to medical office management. She was president of the New City Jaynecees and a director of SHARE, the philanthropic organization founded by Dr. Martha MacGuffie of New City.

Madeleine’s beloved husband, Bill, died in 1982. Their daughter, Jennifer Blanc-Tal, lives in North Brunswick, NJ with her husband, Jason Tal, and their twins, William and Josette. Daughter Victoria Blanc lives in Saline, MI, with her long-time companion, John Stchur. Madeleine is also survived by her sister, Linda Kyriakou, her niece, Christina Kyriakou, and grandniece, Anastasia Kahn. Other survivors include her sisters-in-law, Jane Salchli and Betty Doerr, their children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Higgins Funeral Home, New City, Monday, April 22 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00am Tuesday, April 23 at St. Augustine’s Church, New City. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in West Haverstraw.
